go ahead and flex

here’s a thing to think about:  let’s have a bbq.  i mean let’s grill out, barr bee que.  let’s smack some stuff on the BARbecue.  today or tomorrow or yesterday, it doesn’t matter.

some tunes to usher in the mood on the flip side. Continue reading ‘go ahead and flex’

red hot divas

sunday afternoon we braved sunny skies that turned dark to go to raleigh to see holly wanna crackya tear it up on the flat track.  as always, she figuratively broke bones and spirits with her killer speed and hip power.  rock the hell out of historic dorton arena.

osiris and i like to talk about how good a derby girl i’d be if i’d ever learned how to roller skate.  i have a very low center of gravity, strong knees, a resistance to bruising and a great attraction to competition.  if anyone wants to go roller skating and is willing to be patient and not laugh at me while i hobble around like a baby goat, let’s take it to the rink.

and there were also old ladies cheerleading, calling themselves the red hot divas.  which, if you haven’t ever witnessed such a thing, you should really check out.  the best part was that they were just cheering for themselves.  when you get to be that old, though, you deserve to cheer for yourself.  so keep on with it, ladies!  and keep on with it, holly!

oh my god

new car time!!!!  HOLY CRAP.  i’m still kind of shaky, 3 hours later, with adrenaline and nerves and excitement.  i need to slow my roll before i speed my roll all over town.

oh my god, guys, you have no idea how weird it feels to be in a car that is MINE that RUNS and IS COMPLETELY FUCKING AWESOME.  i kind of want to cry i’m so excited.  i got so used to driving that piece of shit escort that it doesn’t really feel like i deserve a new, awesome, incredible new car.  but guess what, guys.  i totally do!  so suck one, escort.  you can no longer make me feel awkward.

where old car ends and new car begins.  i’ve got a new game.

well, shit

i guess there will be no more puppy pictures.  lyle happened upon a family that was destined to take ruby into their home (seriously, it would’ve been kind of cruel to keep them apart), but i can’t help but feel selfishly bummed out.  she wasn’t even my dog, but i was starting to like the little bugger.  oh, puppy love.

i didn’t even get to watch her go.

a blog of repetition and obsession

PUPPY PUPPY PUPPY

a diversion?  possibly.  but what a pleasant and adorable diversion.  she’s woken up a little in the last couple of days and spent some quality time stepping all over my boobs with her sharp little puppy nails while we sat on the couch tonight.  at least she hasn’t tried to nurse me.  lyle and lulu have both already seen some puppy-teeth-on-nips action.

the mosquitoes are coming out full blast in the old north carolina and today i took a beating (i mean a biting, in the face) while i was taking pictures of the pup.  i try to remember that she’s just a tiny puppy and can’t rough house as much as i’d like, but before too long it will be rumble time.

until then.

um holy crap

LYLE GOT US A NEW PUPPY!!!  while i was at work, alone because the coworkers were playing in a golf tournament (jealous), lyle was driving out to a place near danville to pick up a new puppy!  what?  who does that?!

so today after all this weather and car-shopping stress i walked in to find this adorable, ridiculous puppy.

after the failed experiment with bella about 18 months ago, we’ve been a little bit wary about second-dogs.  it’s tough to trust an already mature dog (like bella) to adapt fully to our household which, i think we can all admit, is a fairly unconventional place for a dog who is used to things like fresh air and daylight.

but ruby, puppy that she is, will have time to adapt and conform.  i can’t wait!  and also she is a boxer/bulldog/australian sheep dog.  kidding?  never!

thunderous

the sky has been falling pretty consistently around here lately.  at least once a week at length, on average, mostly on weekends.  it’s pretty great.  maybe by memorial day there will be enough water in the rivers to go tubing.

i’m starting to get freaked out, though, because next weekend is my self-imposed deadline for new car buying.  it’s even on the 7-day forecast!  as of now, it’s supposed to rain on sunday (surprise).  um, shit, crap.  have i gotten this weirded out by a rite of passage before?  probably.  i’m also starting to get a little nervous about being 25 in only 72 days.  is there anything else i can have nerves about?  yes.  but i just tried to make a list of anythings else and they’re all stupid, so i guess i’m alright.

moving on

this is the most depressing pair of work boots i’ve ever seen. it’s in the middle of an abandoned parking lot next to an abandoned building i walk past on my way from work to the bus stop every day. the boots have been there for a couple of weeks.

the boots depress me for the following reasons:

  1. they’re abandoned
  2. they’re in the middle of a crappy abandoned parking lot filled with shards of glass
  3. the raindrops on them resemble actual tears
  4. they’re missing laces
  5. they’ve got the world’s weirdest wear pattern on the soles

possible ways the person who formerly owned (or currently owns?) these boots could’ve worn out the soles in such a strange way:

  1. stopping a car flinstones-style
  2. log roll mishap
  3. phenomenally huge ass
  4. moonwalk mishap
  5. sliding down the steep roof of a building (possibly the abandoned one?) with sandpapery roof tiles

hey dudes, go vote

SERIOUSLY, NORTH CAROLINA.  VOTE TODAY AND VOTE BARACK.

we can stop this nonsense right now.  and we need to.  go to nc.barackobama.com to find out where to vote and do it!  it is possibly the least painful thing you could do.

next up

well, after guam today, it’s finally our turn! i must say, i’m enjoying all of the attention our state is getting, even though all those liberal news outlets insist on focusing more on indiana. i know this blog has become all-obama-all-the-time, but hell, so has my life, so there you have it.

yesterday, seamus and i both took off work and went over to carrboro town commons for the free arcade fire and superchunk show as an early-vote rally and general fun time. (i did not early vote, which i feel kind of weird about but also alright about because i’m excited to go and wait in line on tuesday. i walk right past the polling place on the way to the bus stop anyway.)

it was pretty incredible. it was a gorgeous and borderline-hot day and a couple of cold beers and a shady spot perfected the afternoon. it was a great day with lots of old and new chapel hill rockers and high school students skipping school. afterwards, just to top it off, i ran into virginia walters on the patio at milltown! oh, it did feel like magic.
